Yoast does it again! They’ve written a wonderful 8-part series on how to rank your business for local searches at Google. As part of this series, they talk about Google My Business (GMB) which allows business owners to verify and submit basic details about their business to Google so that your site gets listed at the top of searches in the Map Pack section as pictured to the right or with full business details like below.

In recent years, Google My Business has become absolutely essential if you want to get listed in the local search results, especially if you have a physical shop you need people to find, but also covers service area businesses that don’t want to list their home address yet serve a specific geographic area. And for mobile search listings, it is even more important since most mobile users like the usability of the maps and calling features.
