Evolv Express® is a weapons detection system used for security screening. It allows patrons to be screened at a normal walking pace. The system uses advanced sensor technology and artificial intelligence to detect potential threats and distinguish them from many common everyday items, such as phones and keys. Evolv Express is designed to empower security teams to resolve alerts with confidence using a “Red Box” to show who alerted and where to search. 

Evolv Express® is designed to detect metallic weapons such as firearms, explosives, knives and metal firearm components.

Evolv Express® was designed to deliver high-confidence detection of firearms but will also alert on some metallic knives. Knife detection varies based on the size, shape, and metal in the knife.

No. It creates its own private Wi‑Fi network for tablets, but you can also use wired connections.

Every environment is unique. One operator is typically enough in low‑flow situations. Busy entrances usually require two operators for one lane or four operators for two lanes.

Evolv Express® is equipped with wheels and handles to support mobility. The setup takes about five minutes. 

Evolv provides hands‑on training to ensure teams are confident operating Evolv Express® from day one. A dedicated Evolv team delivers onsite training during deployment, with ongoing education available through Evolv Academy, including certified operator courses, an admin‑level course with reporting for supervisors, and vertical‑specific training webinars offered throughout the year.

Evolv provides technical support via phone and email, as well as onsite field support when needed, for the full subscription term. Support is included with Evolv’s software, services, and Express systems; however, customers are responsible for using and maintaining Express systems in accordance with Evolv’s provided documentation.

Customers can choose to subscribe or buy the hardware. Customers must have an active Software and Services subscription to use the hardware.

Yes. People can walk through Evolv Express® with bags. In environments with high metallic clutter in bags, alert rates may increase, which is common across weapons detection systems. For these scenarios, pairing Express with Evolv eXpedite™ for bag screening aims to reduce alerts while allowing Express to operate at optimal sensitivity. It allows both people and bags to be screened efficiently. 

The Evolv tablet is designed to empower security teams by providing clear, actionable information on who alerted the Express system, and where the potential threat may be located. It also provides alert images for Evolv eXpedite™, showing the bag that alerted, as well as a detailed X-ray image to support secondary screening.

Yes, with Evolv Express® you can integrate directly with Genetec Security Center, Milestone XProtect, and Titan HST. In addition, partners and customers can create integrations of their own using Evolv’s Open API. These integrations are designed to bring Evolv Express alerts, metadata, and threat images into third-party security systems. Additionally, if using the optional front/rear facing situational awareness cameras built into Express, you can stream the video directly into your Security Operations Center (SOC), Video Management System (VMS) or other video analytics system. 

Evolv Express® can screen up to 4,000 people per hour for a dual-lane system, with throughput dependent on the venue’s sensitivity settings and threat resolution process. Families and groups can enter a venue together at their normal walking pace, aiming to provide a welcoming experience that seeks to maintain dignity and may accelerate entry for guests, students, patients, employees, and beyond. 

Evolv Express is intended to be user-friendly for security and non-security professionals. The Red Box on the Evolv tablet, which identifies the potential threat location, is designed to help operators reduce search time and speed up resolution.

Yes, the system has built-in wheels allowing it to be moved for your venue and facility needs. Weather-resistant covers are provided for transportation and storage.

Yes, all current models of Evolv Express (Gen 2) are outdoor capable. For previous generations (Gen 1), there are indoor and outdoor systems. The outdoor model is more durable for operation in wet weather and temperature extremes and is portable over rough surfaces.

Evolv eXpedite™ is an AI‑powered X‑ray system that scans bags automatically. The belt moves on its own and stops only when it sees a potential threat.

A single operator is sufficient for areas with low traffic. High-traffic entrances typically require three operators: one positioned beside Evolv eXpedite™, another responsible for handing over bags for inspection, and a third assigned to secondary screening.

Yes. Some customers use eXpedite alone for bag screening. Screening approaches depend on the security needs and resources.

Evolv eXpedite™ can scan over 2,000 bags per hour*, making it ideal for diverse high-traffic environments such as office buildings, schools, hospitals and theme parks.

*Testing conducted by Evolv in a controlled environment. Results represent maximum practical throughput based on a FAR of 9% or less, based on 10-minute intervals. Throughput may vary based on a venue’s bag policy and alarm resolution process, visitor walking pace, and alarm rate. 

The combined solution allows Evolv Express® to screen people while Evolv eXpedite™ screens bags. Running bags through eXpedite is meant to reduce the potential clutter going through Express, which can help reduce Express alert rates. This reduction in Express alarm rate allows room for Express to be set to higher sensitivity, with the goal to detect smaller concealed weapons on people, while eXpedite reviews bag contents with precision.

Evolv Insights® provides information about visitor flow rates and alarm rates, broken down by entryway, time, and date. This provides a rich set of metrics for security and operations leaders to view and interrogate. Further, the data acquired by Evolv Express, and visible in the Evolv Insights web-based application, allows you to make critical decisions to improve security staffing and training, visitor traffic flow, operational efficiencies, and venue resource usage.

No. Every customer receives access to the MyEvolv Portal and Evolv Insights® analytics platform with as part of the subscription. Number of user licenses is unlimited at no extra cost.

The MyEvolv Portal is designed to provide security teams with web and mobile control over their Evolv systems along with Evolv Insights: visual dashboards, analytics and regular automated reports on visitor flow, alarm statistics, and system performance to help strengthen security and drive operational efficiency.

In keeping with FDA guidance on the anti-theft systems (EAS detectors) and walk-through metal detectors, it is recommended that visitors and system operators with implantable or wearable medical devices consult their device manufacturer or physician for information relating to their own specific device.  An alternative screening approach is recommended for anyone who has health and safety concerns.

The Evolv Express uses extremely low frequency radio waves (ELF) – a non-ionizing sensing modality – in compliance with IEEE C95.1-2019 Standard for Safety Level with Respect to EMF, the guidance for safe operation with the general public, which includes pregnant people and their unborn children. The IEEE is a leading developer of industry standards.

The Evolv Express uses extremely low-frequency radio waves (ELF). The ELF waves are compliant with IEEE C95.1-2019 Standard for Safety Level with Respect to EMF, the guidance for safe operation with the general public, which applies to regular, occupational, and infrequent exposure, and the International Commission on Non-Ionizing Radiation Protection (ICNIRP) 2010 guidance. The ICNIRP is an independent organization that provides scientific information and science-based advice on protection from non-ionizing radiations through a wide range of publications, and IEEE is a leading developer of industry standards.

Evolv’s objective is to provide the best security without compromising privacy or convenience. The information captured is a standard image and short video clip, like those taken from a smartphone camera or captured by CCTV. If a potential threat is detected, the image appears onscreen with a box highlighting where the threat is located to help security teams focus on that specific area. For clarity, Evolv does not otherwise collect, process, or use any other personal identifiable information. The images are automatically deleted after 30 days. The Evolv Express system has cameras to capture a photographic image of threats that are identified. When the system alarms, an image promptly appears on the guard’s tablet with a red box outline overlaid on the image to indicate the area of concern on a given person or their belongings.
